IIM-S hosts international conference on sustainability

 SHILLONG: The 2nd International Conference, a three-day event on Sustainability: People, Planet & Prosperity conducted by IIM Shillong, commenced here on Wednesday.

The event is being organized to give an impetus to sustainability practices in the socio-economic activities of the region where the environmental wealth is judiciously managed.

The conference provides a platform for assimilation and dissemination of best practices in sustainability using the 7 Ss namely shared values, strategy, structure, systems, style, staff and skills and 7 Ps namely preparation, preservation, processes, people, place, product and production. The key issues being deliberated include cooptation, conservation, and community.

A total of 36 research papers will be presented during the conference which has 150 participants including 25 delegates from across the globe.

Chairman of the conference Prof SK Mazumdar, while speaking at the inaugural function, suggested a 360 degree approach in management practices. Mazumdar proposed a model of continuity on discontinuity keeping in mind the over-all perspectives of sustainable development.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice President Corp EHS, ITC Ltd), Sanjib Bezbaroa emphasized on the green GDP which can create a sustainable economy.

He also pointed out on three key aspects of the survey done by the World Bank on national capital, produce capital and intangible capital.
