Two devotees drown during fair
BAREILLY (UP): Two devotees on Thursday drowned when they were taking a holy dip in the Ramganga river during Kartik Purnima fair in Baradari area of Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh. A woman Durga, resident of Sanjaynagar, and Amit, resident of Bhuta, drowned when they were taking bath in the river, Mr Atul Saxena, the SP(city) of Bareilly said. There was no other report of any other untoward incident during the religious fair of Chaubari mela at the banks of river Ramganga, he added. (UNI)
Traffic inspector dies in road accident
HAJIPUR (MP): A traffic inspector was killed in an accident near Ramashish Chowck under Sadar police station in Vaishali district on Thursday. Police said Babban Rai(43) was crushed by a private bus when he was on duty at the Chowk. He died on the spot. The bus has been seized. The driver, however, managed to escape. The body had been sent for post-mortem at the local government hospital. (UNI)
2 dead in collision, 1 hurt
GULBARGA (KARNATAKA): Two people were killed and another seriously injured in an accident at Kamalapur Village, about 20 kms from here, on Thursday. Kamalapur police sources said the car was on its way to Sant Village from Gulbarga while the private bus was coming to Gulbarga from Bidar when the mishap occurred. The two people died on the spot and Contractor Vijay Kumar from Marguthi Village was seriously injured and admitted to Gulbarga Government Hospital, police said. The deceased were identified as Contractor Basavraj (50) and car driver Ashok (40). (UNI)
1 killed, 4 minors injured in mishap
SRINAGAR: One man was killed and four minors were injured when his vehicle fell into a gorge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Uri sector, police said here on Thursday. The incident took place on Wednesday at Upper Garkote, 100 km from here, in Baramulla district when 33-year-old Mohammad Ashraf lost control over his car and it skidded off the road and fell into a 100-feet-deep gorge, they said. Ashraf died on the spot, while his three children aged between 8-15 and his 10-year-old nephew were injured in the accident, police said. (PTI)
Three sisters run over by train
LUCKNOW: Three sisters and another girl were today killed after being hit by a train at a crossing in Panchsheel Nagar district, police said here today. Suman (28), her sisters Sonia (15)and Neelam (22) and one Gunjan (14) were run over by a passenger train at a crossing in Garhmukteshwar area when they were returning after taking bath on the occasion of Kartik Poornima, they said. Police said that two women were injured in the incident and were admitted to hospital. (PTI)
2 killed, 8 injured in accidents
SRINAGAR: Two persons were killed and eight other injured in Kashmir valley during overnight accidents, official sources said here this evening. They said a vehicle hit and killed a boy Rasik Ahmad Parray at Sanigam in south Kashmir district of Kulgam. Later, villagers set the vehicle on fire, they said adding the drive have been arrested. Five persons were injured when a vehicle in which they were travelling skidded off the road and fell into an nahalla at Uri, about 100 km from here. The injured were rushed to hospital where one of them identified as Mohammad Ashraf Dadard was declared brought dead. They said three people were injured when two vehicles collided at Chanpora in the uptown while one person was hit and wounded by a vehicle at Dailgam in Anantnag district. The injured were admitted to different hospitals. (UNI)
Boat with stolen rice, maize seized
KAKINADA (AP): The Marine police today seized a country boat while illegally shifting four bags of rice and equal number bags of maize stolen from the steel barges near the new port area jetties. The boat owner, Tinali Anand (30), a resident of Suryaraopet Area, was arrested and a case was registered against him for indulging in thefts in port area. Marine CI Srinivas said the value of the grains seized was around Rs 10,000, excluding the boat. The accused would be produced before the court tomorrow and further investigation is on, he added. 1.25 Kg gold biscuits seized
TIRUCHIRAPALLI: Air Customs today seized 1.25 kg of gold worth Rs 30 lakh from a woman passenger who arrived from Colombo by Sri Lankan Airways flight at Airport here on Thursday. According to Customs sources, the woman passenger, Ms Chandra, hailing from Avudayarkovil in Pudukkottai District, arrived here and the customs officials on suspicion examined her. During the examination, the Customs Officials found 12 gold biscuits concealed in the saree which she was wearing. Further investigations were on. (UNI)

SHIMLA: A man was assaulted to death at Majthai area near Totu suburb of this capital town on Thursday morning, police source said. Deceased was identified as Devinder Sharma. The police clueless over the murder and suspect it to be prime facie case of murder. (UNI)
