SURAT: The diamond city of Surat joined the mad rush to keep up the date with this year’s most fancy date 11-11-11 in giving birth to babies.

As many as 13 test tube babies, including two twins, were on Friday delivered in a private hospital here to co-incide with the most sought after date that had caught the imagination of hundreds of expecting parents worldwide.

According to Dr Purnima Nadkarni, 13 babies, including three baby girls, were born between 0600 hrs and 1100 hrs by an elective caesarean in a private hospital. This is perhaps for the first time in Gujarat or possibly in the country that as many test tube babies have born within a short span of time.

Dr Nadkarni said that the hospital was approached by more than 25 women who conceived through in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) and whose due date was approaching. Out of them, 11 mothers were selected as they found to be medically indicated. (UNI)
