JOWAI: Deputy Chief Minister Bindo M Lanong laid the foundation stone of a community hall-cum guest house of the Sein Kur Sookpoh Khad-ar Wyrnai Development Society here on Friday.

Education Minister Dr. RC Laloo, who was present on the occasion, donated Rs 5 lakh to start the construction work.

Lanong in his speech assured members of the clan that he would provide the cement to be required for the construction of the hall.

The meeting was chaired by the clan chief Dr P Syngkong.

Others who spoke on the occasion included Shillong unit president Kyrshan War, P Pakyntein and Aron Lanong.

The Ka Kur Sookpoh Khad-ar Wyrnai was the first clan to settle in Jowai several decades ago.

Traditional dances and songs were also presented on the occasion.

JSU flays Doloi: The Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU), Narpuh Circle, has

come down heavily on the Dolloi of Narpuh Elaka for “misleading the local people by claiming that all cement plants in Lumshnong have benefited the people of the area”.

“We are shocked to see the clarification issued by the Dolloi at the behest of the cement plants saying that all cement plants are located outside the forest area”, said JSU president Hamjhan Siangshai.

“All cement plants operational within Narpuh Elaka have been constructed within the forest land in complete violation of the Forest Act”, he said.
