Kohima: The Nagaland unit of the BJP has criticised Congress MP Rahul Gandhi as ‘Congress’s little price’, who does not want to understand the Naga people and Naga youths problems.

In an official statement, criticising the Congress leader, Nagaland BJP vice-president K Medom Angami said Mr Gandhi during his recent visit to the state had only beat empty drums just like his predecessors.

”Every Congress leader who has visited Nagaland has upset the general public sentiments. They always show up empty-handed and deliver only speeches,”

The statement said Mr Gandhi’s visit held high expectations for many Nagas but during his public address, the Congress leader only criticised the Nagas and that Naga Peoples Front (NPF) instead of focusing on the state’s economic crisis. The BJP stated he spoke at length about lacks of proper roads; people living below the poverty line; price rise and corruption among other things.

It also stated there was no denying that the Nagas were facing all these problems owing to corruption.

However, it added that if the youth icon were aware that the NPF had been misappropriating funds provided by the Centre, the UPA should constitute a fact-finding committee or send a Central investigating agency to nab the culprits.

Attacking the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre, the Nagaland BJP said neither the UPA nor the NPF Government in Nagaland were determined to check corruption.

The party added when the NDA was in power, Nagaland was kept in a special category and all possible help was extended for all round development of the state. (UNI)
