Tiger kills two woodcutters
Guwahati: Two woodcutters were killed and another injured by Royal Bengal Tigers in two separate incidents in the outskirts of the Kaziranga National Park (KNP) in upper Assam today, Forest department sources said.
Two woodcutters from the Hatikuli tea estate – Jaharlal Karmakar and Ganesh Murmu had gone to Haldibari for collecting firewood whey they were attacked by a tiger, the sources said.
Murmu sustained serious injuries while the body of Karmamkar was taken away by the tiger, sources said.
Murmu has been admitted to the Golaghat civil hospital for treatment.
In the second incident at Diring Reserve forest, one Krishna Kanta Gogoi was attacked and seriously hurt by a tiger.
Gogoi succumbed to his injury on way to the Jorhat Civil Hospital, they added. (PTI)
Student drowns
Kohima: A 19-year-old student of a private Higher Secondary school at Medziphema drowned in river Chathe near Kukidolong close to Dimapur.
Official sources said Dominic Vanlallunungteia from Lumgdai village in Mizoram drowned yesterday afternoon. He along with his friends went to Kukidolong near river Chathe river for a picnic.
The sources said Dominic drowned accidentally while he was washing his hands after having meal.
It took the local people almost 40 minute to fish out his body.
The body had been sent for a post-mortem, police said, adding the family members of the victim in Mizoram had been informed. (UNI)
Two militants nabbed
Imphal: Two militants were nabbed by troops and state police in two separate incidents on Saturday.
A cadre of People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) was nabbed by troops of 15 Assam Rifles from Thoubal yesterday.
The apprehended was identified as Pvt Naocha and a 9 mm pistol with magazine and 12, 9 mm live rounds were recovered.
In yet another incident, troops of 30 Assam Rifles and Manipur police launched a joint operation at Leimakhong Phandinga and apprehended one Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup cadre.
The apprehended was identified as Laishram Sanaham and a 9 mm pistol with magazine and two 9 mm live rounds were seized. (UNI)
Accused constable sent to custody
Agartala: A local court in North Tripura on Sunday sent a constable of Tripura police, who was arrested last night for alleged rape of a minor girl inside North Tripura police station premises, to police custody.
Police said the accused was identified as Rana Kishore Debbarma of Manu Police station under Dhalai district and added he allegedly raped a 15-year-old tribal girl inside the official complex last Friday night.
The victim used to stay as paying-guest at the house of one woman home guard.
According to report, medical test of the victim had confirmed the rape. (UNI)
