Police register assault case against Addl SP

JOWAI: Amlarem Police has registered an assault case against Jaintia Hills Additional Superintendent of Police (Traffic) who is also in charge the Amlarem Civil Sub-divisional Police Officer for allegedly assaulting a coal trader.

“A case has been registered under appropriate sections of the law and we are investigating the matter,” a police sources said.

A local coal trader, Larmon Tariang on Thursday lodged a complaint with Amlarem Police against the Additional SP, Nazarius Lamare, and his police team for allegedly assaulted him and looting Rs 1.30 lakh from his possession at Amlarem on Wednesday last. However Lamare has denied the allegations against him stating that he was not present on the spot at the time of the incident.

Meanwhile, JHTOA president, Helping Phawa, who claims to have witnessed the incident along with one of his association member, Kon Pasi, confirmed that the Additional SP was not at the spot when the incident occured.

The eye-witnesses further claimed that the trader, who was intoxicated, was shouting and abusing the cops. He also tried to attack one of the policeman, but he fell down as he could not control himself, they said.
