GUWAHATI: Arunachal Pradesh Government will erect a statue of legendary singer and composer Dr Bhupen Hazarika who died in Mumbai on November 5 last, at the state museum in Itanagar.
It was announced by chief minister of the frontier state Nabam Tuki here on Monday. He was here at the city residence of Dr Hazarika to extend condolence to the bereaved family members of the musician including his son Tez Hazarika on behalf of the people of Arunachal Pradesh. He also collected the urn full of ashes of the musical genius who was cremated here on November 9 last, to be taken to his state.
Tuki said that the death of legendary music composer and singer Dr Bhupen Hazarika was as much a loss to his state as it was to Assam. “People of Arunachal Pradesh are as sad as the people of Assam at the demise of this legendary figure,” he said.
He will carry the urn containing Dr Hazarika’s ashes to Itanagar and said the urn will be taken out in a procession in the capital city to enable the fans and mourners of Arunachal Pradesh to pay their last respects. The ashes will be later immersed at a river in the hill state.
Arunachal Pradesh government had announced one-day official mourning at the demise of Dr Hazarika. The picturesque hill state and its colourful tribal communities were very close to the heart of Bhupen Hazarika who composed and tuned many songs on the state and its people describing their beauty and unique characters.
Meanwhile, Assam government is making an elaborate arrangement for organizing the ‘adya shraddha’ ceremony of the Dr Hazarika in a public ground at Khanapara in the city on Tuesday to facilitate his fans to pay their last respect to the cultural icon on the occasion. An all religion prayer is being organised for the occasion.
