SHILLONG: The police are not often seen as Good Samaritans but Inspector General of Police (IGP) BL Buam is one such. Buam rescued a young girl who was in an inebriated condition along the Shillong-Guwahati road on Wednesday evening.

The IGP saw the young girl lying in the middle of the road while he was returning from Garo Hills to Shillong.

When contacted, Buam informed that initially when he saw the girl he thought it was a boulder.

“After we came nearer we were surprised to see a young girl lying in the middle of the road,” the IGP said.

After seeing her condition he decided to take her into his vehicle since she is likely to be crushed by some vehicle if left on the road.

“We then took the girl to Umiam police station for medical treatment,” Buam added.
