Kathmandu: The Nepal government is mulling the idea of further extending the term of the Constituent Assembly by another six months.

The preparations are underway for the extension of the Constituent Assembly (CA) term for the last time, which ends on November 29, said Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar.

Talking to the reporters at the Biratnagar Airport today, he said the extension was mandatory to finalise the peace and statute drafting processes.

The Minister also made it clear that the incumbent Dr Baburam Bhattarai-led government will dissolve only after a situation was created to form a national consensus government.

Just to change the government for the sake of power will not serve the national interest, he pointed out. The present government has been entrusted with the twin responsibilities of concluding the peace process and drafting a new constitution, he said. (PTI)
