3 women arrested
BIDAR (K’TAKA): Police on Saturday arrested three women at KHB Colony here and seized from them 30 kg ganja being carried illegally. Police said that the culprits had packed the ganja and strapped it to their body and on getting doubt, they were put to body search and the banned drug was found. The arrested were identified as Kamalabai, Kalpana and an another women was yet to be identified. A case has been registered by Bidar New Town Police station. (UNI)
Four country-made guns seized
ERODE (TN): A man was arrested on Saturday for allegedly producing country-made guns and indulging in chain snatching incident. Purushothaman of Thanthondrimalai in Karur District was arrested in connection with chain snatching cases in Chithode, Erode and Udumalpet areas, they said. District SP S Panneerselvam said during interrogation Purushothaman said he and his father used to produce the country-made guns. Based on the information provided by the arrested, four country-made guns were seized and police are searching for his father, he added. (PTI)
Lineman dies of electrocution
JHAJJAR (HARYANA): An assistant lineman who was working with Haryana Power Corporation was electrocuted while on duty at the fields of the village here, police said on Saturday. They said a large number of residents of Kheri Hosdapur village here did not lift the body of the deceased Dharmender for nearly 18 hours after the incident late last evening and resorted to a sit-in to protest the incident besides demanding appropriate compensation and a government job to the deceased’s kin. The villagers lifted the body from the spot this afternoon following an assurance by the district authorities that Rs five lakh as compensation and a government job would be given to the brother of the deceased. The villages filed a complaint against three officials of the Corporation. (PTI)
112 taken ill after consuming food
NAHAN (HP): 112 persons were taken ill after consuming food in a marriage party at village Kodewala near Haripur Khol, about 40 km from here, on Saturday. 67 persons–29 males, 20 females and 18 children– were admitted to Nahan district hospital after they complained of nausea and vomitting while 45 others received treatment atthe village from a medical team dispatched from Nahan. When contacted, Chief Medical Officer of Sirmour Surender Gandhi told PTI that all the patients brought in Nahan hospital were showing symptoms of food poisoning like vomitting, stomach pain and loose motion. 12 arrested in cheating
THANE: The city police on Saturday arrested 12 people, including a girl candidate and two trainers, for their alleged role in cheating during the police recruitment exams. According to police, the arrested accused a native of Solapur were from Arya Pratishtan, which trained the candidates for the police exam. The two arrested trainers were identified as Prakash Pawar and Vilas Chavan, while among the arrested are nine male candidates, they said. According to police, the trainers were camping at the New Ramesh Lodge in Thane city during the exam and they dictated the answers of the questions to the candidates over cell phone during the written exams. They were caught in action by the moderators. The trainers had charged Rs 10,000 each from the candidates for the services of assistance provided to them, they added. The recruitment exams were on for the last two weeks, in which thousands are trying their luck. (UNI)
Youth abducts girl, arrested
NEW DELHI: A 24-year-old youth was arrested for allegedly kidnapping and beating up a teenaged girl in his neighbourhood who had rejected his love proposal. Vikram Singh Rawat, along with his friend Manish Kumar, allegedly kidnapped the girl last night when she was returning from her fashion designing classes, they said. Rawat bundled the girl into his friend’s car and tried to convince her for two hours but when she refused he finally thrashed her and dumped her near her home. Rawat was arrested today based on a complaint filed by the girl’s family. (PTI)
Temple idols stolen
TIRUCHIRAPALLI (TN): Unidentified miscreants broke open the locks of the ancient Shiva Temple here and stole three bronze idols and devotees contributions in the hundi at Uttathur, near here on Friday night. The temple priest and other staff members of the temple who locked the temple last night and came to open the temple this morning,found the entrance door locks broken open and informed the matter to their higher ups. On the information, Temple Executive Officer Sampathkumar rushed to the spot and informed the matter to the police, who are investigating. (UNI)
