Assembly elections in 2013

By Our Reporter

SHILLONG: The BJP may have lost its favourite and lone MLA A L Hek in the political rumblings but the party is claiming that it will field another candidate from Pynthorumkhrah constituency in the upcoming Assembly elections in 2013.

Pynthorumkhrah constituency was always a booked seat for BJP as their former MLA AL Hek contested elections successfully every time but now the AL Hek is a Congress man and BJP is searching for a new candidate from the constituency. Talking to The Shillong Times here, BJP Meghalaya general secretary Dipayan Chakraborty said, “ The shifting of allegiance by AL Hek was only a minor jolt.”

It may be mentioned that BJP in the last 2008 MLA elections secured only one seat, but later during the political rumblings the lone BJP legislator AL Hek deserted BJP and joined Congress leaving BJP high and dry.

“We have overcome the minor jolt and now we are confident to be more stronger,” he added while speaking to The Shillong Times on the upcoming elections. According to Dipayan Chakraborty, AL Hek should have resigned as an MLA and re contest as a Congress candidate if he had the desire to join Congress.

Replying to a query whether BJP will contest the coming election from Pynthormukhrah constituency, Dipayan Chakraborty said that BJP will surely contest from Pynthormukhrah and the party has even started its work to field its new candidate from the constituency.

However it is not yet clear who will contest the elections against the seasoned AL Hek in the 2013 elections.
