Guwahati/SHILLONG: An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter Scale rocked the entire Northeastern region for a few seconds at around 8.47am on Monday. However, there was no report of any loss of life and property or anyone being injured, official sources said.
The quake was felt throughout the region including Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh.According to information received from the regional seismological observation station in Geo-science Department of the Northeast Institute Science and Technology (NEIST) in Jorhat in Assam informed that the epicenter of the quake was on India-Myanmar border to the East of Ukhrul district in Manipur. It is located at about 95 kilometer depth below the earth’s surface. It is located about 322 kilometer away from Guwahati
The quake caused cracks in several houses in Sivasagar district of Assam.
Scores of people were killed in Sikkim, North Bengal and Northern India after an earthquake, measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale, shook the region in September.
