MUMBAI: India pace spearhead Zaheer Khan is expected to be provisionally selected for the tour to Australia by the national selectors, who are scheduled to meet on November 26 to pick the squad for the four-Test series starting December 26.

“The selectors are likely to name him in the squad subject to him proving his match fitness (in the Ranji Trophy),” BCCI sources said on Monday.

The Indian squad is scheduled to leave for Australia on December 13 from Chennai.

Zaheer, who broke down after bowling only 13.3 overs in the opening Test against England at Lord’s, has undergone an ankle surgery and has started practising.

He was seen bowling at the Indian team’s nets on Sunday at the Wankhede stadium though he is not in the squad to take on the West Indies in the third and final Test commencing on Tuesday.

Zaheer is scheduled to play for Mumbai in their fourth Ranji Trophy Elite Group A league match against Orissa at Cuttack later this month. (PTI)
