TURA: The GNLA has acknowledged that it carried out the abduction of Dadenggre BDO on Monday afternoon ostensibly to give a message to the Meghalaya government over its proposal to ban the outfit that it can strike anywhere with impunity.

Political Affairs Secretary of GNLA, Bikdot Nikjang Marak, issued a statement to select media houses to claim that the abduction was undertaken in anger against the state government’s repeated attempts to ban the outfit by putting trumped up charges against it to the Central government.

“This decision to target government officials is part of our ten resolutions charter that was agreed upon by our military council led by army chief Sohan D Shira and endorsed by chairman Pakchara (Champion),” said the GNLA political affairs leader.

He warned that the abduction of BDO P K Boro is just the beginning of the group’s agenda to place under its “custody” government officials and politicians. The outfit threatened to unleash a wave of terror on government officials, MLAs and police personnel but spared any retribution on doctors and medical staff and lady officials.

“The government has been given ten days time to fulfill our demands and ensure the safe return of the official currently under our custody but politicians and police will not have that luxury,” said the GNLA leader.

Among the ten resolutions passed one is on the withdrawal of counter-insurgency operations against the group involving special commandos of the state police’s SWAT Team, CRPF’s CoBRA units and BSF troops in the jungles of East and South Garo Hills.
