We are not going to take responsibility of MUA Govt blunders, says Dr Roy

By Our Reporter

SHILLONG: UDP has readied itself for electoral battle, finalizing its strategies and forming a state election committee to take on Congress.

“The party has prepared a full-proof strategy to overthrow Congress in the upcoming Assembly elections,” UDP president Dr Donkupar Roy said after the Central Executive Council (CEC) meeting of the party here on Tuesday.

He, however, refused to divulge in details.

On sharing responsibilities for the blunder committed by the MUA Government of which UDP is a partner, Dr Roy said, “We are not going to do that. It is the Congress which is leading the Government”

The UDP president informed that the party has constituted a State Election Committee (SEC).All the MLAs, presidents of the district units and senior leaders are members of the committee.

“We have asked all the District Election Committees to submit the list of the party candidates for the Assembly election tentatively before February next year,” Dr Roy said.

He also informed that the SEC had been authorised to nominate more members to the committee in the days to come.

UDP president informed the CEC decided to welcome the merger of KHNAM with his party.

“We would adequately accommodate the KHNAM leaders in various positions in the party,” Dr Roy said adding that the UDP would also be entering into an agreement with the KHNAM.

Dr Roy, however, made it clear that it was out of the question for the UDP to disband itself and float a new party along with the KHNAM as suggested by some of their (KHNAM) leaders.

The date of the merger would be fixed after the KHNAM General Council meeting on November 26, he said. On present alliance with Congress, the party decided to remain as a part of the government.

“We all felt that we can work better for the people by being in the Government,” Dr Roy said.
