GSU unit submits memo to CM

 SHILLONG: The Garo Students’ Union (GSU) Kharkutta Regional Unit, East Garo Hills, submitted a three-point charter of demands to Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma on Friday.

The GSU urged the government to upgrade the Kharkutta Public Health Centre (PHC) to Community Health Centre (CHC).

The GSU said the Public Health Centre lacked basic medical facilities.

Regarding the upgradation of the PHC to CHC, the GSU said the Executive Engineer, Directorate of Health Service, Meghalaya had invited tender on December, 2006 but even after five years the project is yet see the light of the day.

The GSU also demanded augmentation of PHE department’s various water supply schemes. The public water supply system from the village of Rajasimla – from where the only stream is providing water to Kharkutta area – has so far been neglected as there is no proper repairing of the distribution system, the GSU said.

The GSU urged for complete renovation of the water reservoir, major repairing work of the distribution system and construction of water treatment plant at the reservoir.

GSU also demanded repair of the road from Kharkutta to Wage Asi Road.
