Mumbai: After being stalled for months, the shooting for director Madhur Bhandarkar’s much-awaited film Heroine finally began on Saturday.
The film revolves around the life of a once successful film actress Mahi Khanna, whose career is on a decline.
“Today, I start shooting for my next project, Heroine. Am I excited, nervous or ecstatic? Actually, I am very calm because movie making is one thing that comes very naturally to me. My day has begun with a silent prayer for the victims of 26/11,” Bhandarkar wrote on his blog.
Since the inception of the film, Madhur was keen on casting Kareena, who was the original choice for the film, but due to certain issues it did not work out following which Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was finalised.
In May this year, the film was announced at the 64th Cannes International Film Festival and also some scenes were shot.
But in June, megastar Amitabh Bachchan broke the news about his daughter-in-law’s pregnancy following which Producers UTV Motion Pictures had said that the shooting has been put on hold indefinitely. Now with Kareena on board the decks have been cleared.
“As you all know that the fabulous Kareena Kapoor (Bebo) is playing the role of the main protagonist in this movie. Both of us had wanted to work with each other for a while now. Finally, we are and I am sure we are going to have a blast during the shoot,” Bhandarkar said.
The other star cast of the film includes actors Arjun Rampal, Randeep Hooda and Shahana Goswami.
“Arjun Rampal, who has been a very dear friend, is playing the lead in this movie. Looking forward to working with Randeep Hooda and Shahana Goswami. This is the first time I will be working with all these actors and I am excited,” Bhandarkar said.
Talking about the film, Bhandarkar, says, “Heroine is a very contemporary subject of today’s time. This movie, like all my other movies, is a mix of facts and fiction. What I could say is different about Heroine as compared to all my other movies is that, it is a bigger movie.”
“It has a larger span, more characters, more costumes…a journey that revolves around an actress’ life and showbiz,” he said.
After Fashion, music directors Salim-Sulaiman, would be giving music for the film. The duo has already recorded two songs. The film is produced by UTV Motion Pictures and Bhandarkar Entertainment. (PTI)
