TURA: The Garo militant group GNLA has accused the Mukul Sangma-led government of being indifferent towards the safety of abducted Dadenggre BDO P K Boro by refusing to fulfill the outfit’s demand for withdrawal of forces engaged in counter-insurgency operations against them.

The political affairs secretary of the outfit, Bikdot Nikjang Marak, issued a statement to The Shillong Times on Monday afternoon accusing the government of lacking concern for its own official who is presently under its custody.

He warned that the expiry of the ten-day deadline is fast approaching but the government continued to remain mum over the issue. The militant group wants halt in anti-militancy operations and withdrawal of forces from the jungles of Garo Hills before they release the BDO.

“We have given ample time for the government to respond to our demand but they have shown no interest at all. This government is not in favour of a solution. It wants a conflict,” said the outfit. The militant group accused the state of failing to protect the interest of its employees leaving the officer to his own fate.”The government is not even keen to save its own officer, such is the fate of the employees who work for the state,” claimed Bikdot Nikjang. He also denied the outfit has demanded ransom for the safe release of the Dadenggre BDO but refused to reply to reasons for his abduction. The ten-day deadline ends on Friday.
