Overhead electrical wires, telephone wires, cable wires perilously dangling across countless number of street poles in the city have become a nuisance for pedestrians. In an incident in the recent past, a pedestrian, while walking on the footpath in Barik, was gripped by one of these torn wires. Just when the pedestrian was trying to free himself from the wire, the other end, which was fixed to the pole, got hooked to a running vehicle. Luckily for the pedestrian he set himself free in the nick of time.
In another such incident, a resident while walking towards Don Bosco from Bomfyle Road was hit by a cable near Gurudwara Shri Guru Singh Sabha. “These cables are hanging dangerously in the area and they might pose a threat to anyone,” he said. In yet another incident, a person escaped injury after a detached cable fell on him, but his shirt was torn by the sharp wire. The condition is worst at Garikhana Junction where wires are lying on the road and dangle in abundance from poles, restricting the movement of public on the footpath.
Many residents feel that one has to be extra cautious in the streets these days as vehicles and telephone and electric poles are encroaching into the pedestrians’ space.
