SHILLONG: The Western Ri Bhoi Development Council (WRBDC) has opposed the high handedness of the Assam Government in encroaching into the territory of the state especially its decision to dam the Wahkhri River at Rajabala village situated in Ri Bhoi District. Talking to media here recently, Vice Chairman of WRBDC Najim Kharmalki said the organisation strictly opposes the Assam government to dam the Wahkhri River for generating electricity.

“If that river is dammed, then many villages located at both sides of river – from West Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi will be affected and many of their agricultural land”, Kharmalki added.

He further mentioned that the organisation will inspect the villages which are likely going to suffer from this dam along with the members of the villages—Rajabala, Rajapara Kyrshai and others.
