Man tortured, beaten to death for Rs 6,000

Thane: In a shocking incident, a 35-year-old man was tortured and beaten to death and his body disposed off by his master in Shere village in Shahpur taluka of Thane distruct, it was alleged in a complaint to the Thane District Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar Mor, by his widow.

The incident took place last week in the sleepy Shere village.

According to the complaint by his 30-year-old widow Jayabai. a Katkari Adivasi, Jhipru Mukane was chained and tortured by his master for the sake of just Rs 6000, which he had taken as loan in 2010.

This was despite the fact that the tribal had already repaid the loan and there was no no pendency from his side to the master.

Jayabai informed the DSP that she was even denied his body for last rights and alleged police complicity and apathy when they simply refused to take her complaint.

The local arrack vendor and brick kiln owner Balu Chowdhari and his son Ganesh had on October, 27 beat her husband blue and black and dragged him to their brick kiln, she said.

She said they had borrowed Rs 6000 from the master in 2010 which they had already repaid but the Chowdharis insisted that they were defaulters.

With tears rolling down her cheek, an emotional Jayabai said it was on November 12, as her husband had not returned home for a long time she went looking for him at the brick kiln, and to her shock she saw him locked in a small room. where he could barely lay down, and his hands and feet were chained and there were bruises all over his body, and her pleadings had no effect on the father son duo, she said. They drove her away abusing and asking her not to return else face dire consequences. (IANS)
