Raw rubber utilisation to get a boost in Tripura

 AGARTALA: The utilisation of raw rubber in Tripura is expected to get major boost after opening of the Rubber Park at Bodhjungnagar Industrial Estate, said Director of Industries and Commerce VG Janner here on Tuesday.

The utilization of raw rubber which was only 5 percent in 2008 has been enhanced to 25 percent in 2010, according to official figures.

This will go up to 75 percent once the Rs. 23 crore project gets functional properly.

Talking to reporters, the Director said that the Rubber Park, having all modern facilities has got ready for opening.

Only one task is left, that is setting up of Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) is expected to get operational by February next.

He said adding that the CETP would ensure purification of wastage at the park.

Janner said the department has already distributed plots among the potential entrepreneurs in the Rubber Park.

The DS Group which has a rubber thread plant at Bodhungnagar having annual capacity of producing 3000 ton rubber tread is scheduled to add another 3000 ton rubber threat annually.

On the plan of setting up Bamboo Park at Bodhjungnagar Industrial Estate, Janner said that the agency had been engaged to create necessary facilities.

The Centre has already sanctioned Rs. 24 crore to implement the project.

The aim of the project is to create infrastructure for bamboo industrial products like bamboo made board, tiles and corrugated sheets.

The project is expected to be implemented by 2013 next.

Janner further claimed, the value addition to raw bamboo has also been increased in the state.

Earlier, only incense sticks were produced but now two franchises of ITC (Mangaldeep) has been producing rool batti.
