SHILLONG: The State Police has ruled out any human sacrifice angle into the murder of a five-year-old boy Mohammad Shamsad Ansari in the city which rocked headlines last month.

Sources on Saturday said that police have thoroughly interrogated the accused, Mehboob Hussain who is the victim’s uncle, but he has remained adamant over the fact that he alone committed the crime. Mehboob has also confessed that he had killed the boy on the same day that he had kidnapped him.

Relatives and neighbours of the victim suspect the murder to be a case of child sacrifice. They allege that Mehboob committed the crime after he had come into contact with a tantrik. Mehboob’s wife is pregnant and the relatives suspect that he may have been involved in the human sacrifice to seek divine blessings for a son.

Police has, meanwhile, seized the local taxi (MLO5D 2302) in which Mehboob had taken his nephew to Laitkor and later strangulated him and then hit him on the head wheel range that led to his death.
