NONGSTOIN: The Deputy Commissioner of West Khasi Hills District S Kharlyngdoh has announced a sanction of Rs 30 lakh for the construction of a village haat at trouble-torn Langpih along the Meghalaya-Assam border.

Construction of the haat will begin in December itself and will be completed within a few months, the DC informed, while adding that the money has been allocated under the Swarnjayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY) with the help of various departments in West Khasi Hills.

The announcement is being seen as an attempt by the Government to negate the various developmental projects being undertaken by the Assam Government in and around Langpih.
