Attacks on ATMs on the rise in city

 SHILLONG: Attacks on ATMs in the city are on the rise. Several SBI ATMs are targeted in the recent past..

The SBI ATM at Rynjah Bazaar was vandalized by some miscreants on December 6 night. Miscreants broke the touch screen of the monitor of this ATM.

“Unknown miscreants in the recent past vandalized the touch screen of ATMs situated at RASMECC (Polo Ground), Rynjah Puja Mandap, Meghalaya Secretariat, Hotel Grace (Jail Road),” said SBI authorities here adding that the ATM at Madanryting was damaged beyond repair.

The AGM, SBI Administrative Office, Dhankheti, said motive behind these attacks was not clear. “The attack on the Madanryting ATM was for money whereas in others ATMs it could be for machine parts besides money,” said the AGM adding that miscreants could not take any money from the Madanryting ATM.

Customers suffer a lot due these uncalled for attacks, the banks authorities said adding several complaints had been lodged with the police in this regard.

There were few arrests made in this regard after the SBI authorities helped police with CCTV footages.
