London: Pop sensation Lady Gaga, who is all set to release a song about the death of Princess Diana, fears she might end up dying the way Diana died.
The 25-year-old singer wrote the track after dubbing the royal as a “martyr for fame”.
A source close to the singer says that she sees herself as a pop version of Diana, who died at the age of 36 following a car accident in Paris in 1997, reported Sun online.
“Gaga has always been absolutely fixated on Diana and sees herself as a 21st-century incarnation of her. She knows she is almost as recognisable as Diana and is hounded by photographers and fans on the same level,” the source said.
“Gaga has had dreams about dying the same way as her and has genuine fears that her fame could literally kill her, either in a chase or at the hands of crazies,” it added.
Gaga has previously said that she is obsessed by the charity work and fashion sense of Diana. She has lifted costume ideas from the Princess’s wardrobe. And the idea behind Gaga’s 2009 hit ‘Paparazzi’ also stemmed from the death of the royal.
“Diana was the most iconic martyr of fame. She died because of it,” said Gaga, who played a piano version of her new song to a select few last month.
One critic described it as packed with “bitter lyrics” around a “trademark catchy chorus”. Fans have already flooded websites with messages saying they cannot wait to hear the new track.
Meanwhile, the pop star’s mother cried when she refused to use a stunt double for scenes with exploding cars in her promo for ‘Marry the Night’.
The 25-year-old said her parents Joseph and Cynthia, who were on set, were unhappy with her decision to risk her safety for her art, reported Daily Mirror. “We really lit the cars on fire, we really exploded them. My dad and my mom were in a car somewhere and my mum was like crying and so upset because I didn’t want to use a stunt double. I never use doubles for anything. So we filmed this shot of the explosion,” said Gaga. Gaga also said her father understood her vision for the 14-minute video and praised how raw the finished clip was. (PTI)
