Guv lauds contributions of RNDM sisters

 Shillong: “After 150 years of continuous service to the nation, the sisters of Our Lady of the Missions (also known as RNDM sisters) has brought a lot of changes and hope to the hopeless women and children across twenty two countries around the globe,” said Governor RS Mooshahary.

Addressing the inaugural function of the Sesquicentennial (150) years of RNDM Sisters of India, North East Province at St Mary’s Higher Secondary School Ground here on Thursday, Mooshahary said, “In the state, the RNDM Sisters have brought about lots of changes in many aspects mainly being education for the girls. The state now witnesses a large number of good schools and colleges for women.”

“Their explicit missionary goal was the care of

women and children and they have contributed a lot to the welfare of the women folks”, said Mooshahary.

Mooshahary said the RNDM Sisters who have been entrusted with the responsibility has been able to dispel darkness by nurturing and carrying the light towards the society with utmost fidelity to some extend.

He however, pointed out that in 150 years time that the world has experienced many changes yet there are certain things that have not changed at all such as love, truth, peace and compassion.

The RNDM Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions was founded by a French woman Euphrasie Barbier in 1861.

Born on January 4, 1829 in Caen, France, Barbier was brought up from her earliest years in a family where human and Christian values were the only wealth that really mattered.

In Meghalaya, the congregation of the RNDM sisters was established in 1915 and for the past ninety six years, the sisters had made several contributions to Meghalaya and other states.

The celebration was marked with the lighting of the main jubilee candle by the Governor of Meghalaya.

The jubilee candle, which symbolizes the presence of Christ in the congregation, will be taken to the different parts of the Northeast states throughout the year.
