 NONGSTOIN: Various developmental schemes of the Central government were highlighted at the public information campaign on Bharat Nirman Programmes at Nongstoin.

At the Technical Session on Thursday, J. Tariang, Executive Engineer, PMGSY, Nongstoin said that under the scheme phases II to V are being implemented in the district.

Under Phase II, 19 numbers of road works have been completed covering a length of 65.56 Kms. Under Phase III, 5 numbers of road works have been completed covering 19,75 Kms. Under Phase IV, 4 numbers of road works completed covering 19 kms. of length. Phase V which is ongoing scheme, there are 8 numbers of road works being constructed. “The progress till date is about 78 per cent,” he said.

Speaking on mid-day meal scheme, PK Seal, Sub Divisional School Education Officer, Nongstoin said about 596 LP Schools and 215 UP Schools totaling 811 numbers had been covered. For enrolment, 27325 students in LPS and 8859 UPS students have been covered. During 2011-12, MDM is being provided for 200 days for LP Schools and 220 days for UP Schools anticipating working days. The components provided are food grains, cooking costs, kitchen devices and sheds, etc., he said.

W. Syiemlieh, SDO, PHE Division, Nongstoin speaking on the Total Sanitation Campaign, said that IHHLs for BPL families is provided with Rs. 3700/- per family as an incentive, school toilets of Rs. 38,500/- per unit, Anganwadi toilets of Rs. 10,000 per Centre. The emphasis is on Information Education & Communication. Under the Nirmal Gram Puraskar, two villages Khynrin and Diskiang have been awarded so far in the District. About 113 numbers of Gaon Panchayats have applied under the Nirmal Gram Puraskar to the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Govt. of India. This year, TSC measures have been stepped up in the district, he said.

As part of the campaign, Exhibitions by Govt. Departments and NGOs, SHGs and Cultural Programmers by local troupes and Song & Drama Division, Guwahati were organized on the occasion, and it also witness that 77 stalls where various departments as well as NGOs, SHGs were displayed their various items.

The programme was organized by the Central Media Units like PIB, DFP, DAVP, DDK, AIR & S & DD in collaboration with the District Administration, West Khasi Hills District, Nongstoin.
