Rash driving claims 2 lives

The motorbike rammed on the underside on the Army vehicle following the accident on Thursday.

SHILLONG: Two teenagers including a girl died on the spot after the bike they were riding suffered a head-on collision with an Army truck near the 101 Area here on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased have been identified as Ban Nongbri (20) and Rebecca Malai Syiem (18).

According to the Shillong Traffic Police, the incident took place when the speeding bike (ML 05F 7964) which was on its way to Upper Shillong rammed into the Army truck which was proceeding towards Shillong.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Herbert Lyngdoh stated that preliminary reports have suggested that the speeding might have led to the accident. The driver of the Army truck, one Udayban Gupta, has been detained while the Army truck has been seized. “The bodies have been handed over to the respective families,” Lyngdoh informed.
