AGARTALA: The Chandigarh College of Architecture (CCA) has suggested the Tripura Government to tie-up with nationally-reputed hospitality training institutions for setting up full-time study centres in the state for the existing hospitality service providers and hotel operators to revamp the tourism sector.

They also suggested to organise exposure tours as well as short term training courses.

”Referring to the study, Prof Sohanlal of CCA maintained that hospitality service providers including floor managers and hotel boys, shop-keepers and auto-drivers were not trained to handle the tourists in satisfactory manner, which affecting the tourism sector of the state and suggested immediate intervention of the state government,” said a senior official here today.

The officials said Prof Sohanlal had also emphasised to develop hospitality management course in the state as the entire northeastern region had been suffering from poor hospitality and service management because of lack of trained manpower.

A CCA team led by Prof Sohanlal had been asked to help for development of the tourism potential of the state and prepare two separate Detail Project Reports (DPRs) for Agartala and Udaipur following the presentation of a concept document.

Tourism Minister Anil Sarkar said here today the state government appreciated the concept document of Agartala Mega Circuit Destination Project (AMCDP) and Udaipur Lake Mega Destination Project (ULMDP) and added that now CCA would prepare DPR for both the projects amounting to Rs 21.93 crore.

He however, said Prof Sohanlal of CCA had made presentation on the proposed development of tourism sites of both the cities in presence of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and top bureaucrats last evening.

According to the plan, AMCDP would include an international golf and tennis court spread over 32 acres of land in Shalbagan area in BSF complex, an avenue plantation, light and sound fountain and other cultural activities in Ujjayanta palace besides construction of visitors gallery, development of parade ground at Akhaura border of Agartala replicating the Waga ground at Amritsar along Indo-Pakistan border.

”An 8,000 seater visitor gallery, recreation centre, visa centre and food court would be set up at Akhaura and as part of the project Ministry of Home Affairs has been asked to organise flag off ceremony every day at Indo-Bangladesh border like the one at Waga while BSF was requested to take up the matter with it’s Bangladesh counterpart considering the tourism potential of the state,” Mr Sarkar stated.
