AIZAWL:A consignment of Mizoram-grown broomsticks was sent off to Russia from Vairengte town in Mizoram on Friday.
”May the broomsticks bring back great economic benefits to the Mizoram farmers,” Chief Minister Lal Thanzara said as he flagged off trucks carrying 40000 broomsticks.
The broomsticks were manufactured by Mizoram Broom Industry Ltd, set up by T Lalengthanga and B T Nghinglova. The market was facilitated by monitoring cell under the state government’s flagship programme New Land Use Policy.Thanks to the initiatives of Wg Cdr (rtd) Lalnghinglova, chairman of the monitoring cell, the broom industry had tied up with five companies to market the broomsticks.B T Nghinglova said they received order for one lakh broomsticks which they could not meet at one time. They were planning to export another 6,000 broomsticks.Hundreds of families in Kolasib district have opted for broomstick cultivation under the New Land Use Policy. (UNI)
