Nehlang to skip 2013 Assembly polls

 JOWAI: Rymbai MLA (now Khliehriat) Nehlang Lyngdoh has decided not to contest the next Assembly elections due in 2013.

Lyngdoh, who represented Rymbai constituency for two consecutive terms, made his decision public at a meeting of the Khliehriat Block Congress Committee (KBCC) held at his residence at Rymbai village on Thursday.

Informing this to The Shillong Time, the KBCC Secretary P Nongtdu said the meeting unanimously accepted Lyngdoh’s decision.

He said the new aspirants for party ticket must send their applications to KBCC on or before December 20.

The JHADC chairman Obil Kyndait, ex-JHADC chief Hambertus Nongtdu and Bataw-Lakadong MDC Joinriwel Pyrtuh were also present in the meeting besides other members and party workers.

Nontdu also informed that the application received by the KBCC would be forwarded to the Jaintia Hills District Congress Committee for approval.

An election committee was also formed with Nehlang Lyngdoh as the chairman, Obil Kyndait as the vice chairman and P. Nongtdu as the Secretary along with eight others as members.

Death of fishes continues in Lukha river: Fishes are dying in Lukha river and people are seen collecting floating fishes.

The river changed its colour to blue after killing thousands of fishes till date. The discoloration was first witnessed in November, 2007 and since then it is repeated every year between the month of November and February.

This year the river changed it colour on November 19. Dead fishes were seen floating on the water surface soon after the discoloration.

“On Thursday, dead fishes were seen again floating on the river surface”, Sunapyrdi KSU unit chief K Suchiang said.
