Diskiang village receives Nirmal Gram Puraskar

 NONGSTOIN: The Chairman of Meghalaya Reform Development Forum Hoping Stone Lyngdoh has urged people of Diskiang villages and other areas of West Khasi Hills to maintain community and personal hygiene to ensure that Meghalaya achieves Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC) goal by 2017.

The Diskiang village is the lone village of West Khasi Hills which received this year’s Nirmal Gram Puraskar.

The village received the cash award at the impressive function held on Friday at Diskiang village.

Speaking on the occasion, Lyngdoh said the main objective of the Nirmal Gram Puraskar was to bring about greater awareness about sanitation. He said that TSC is a comprehensive programme to ensure sanitation facilities in rural areas with the broader goal to eradicate the practice of open defecation.

The award function was organized by the District Water Sanitation Mission West Khasi Hills.

The chief guest handed over the cheque of Rs 50,000 to the headman of Diskiang village P.Thongni.
