Deputy CM Bindo M Lanong felicitates Union Minister of Sports Ajay Maken with a shawl at the convocation.

SHILLONG: Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Independent charge, Ajay Maken, has stated that the Ministry has targeted to add one thousand more youths from the North East region in the Youth of Employment Skill (YES) project.

Addressing the gathering during the 1st convocation of the YES project here on Saturday, the Minister said that taking a cue from the success of the project in Meghalaya and Manipur, other states of the country have also demanded for the programme.

Maken, however, was of the opinion that the Government would first assess the mistakes that had cropped up during implementation of the project in the two states before expanding it to the other states.

Altogether 38 youths took part in the inaugural training from whom many have also been placed in different firms all over the country, Maken said, while adding that the duration of the project is three month.

According to Maken, the top most priority of his ministry is to create employment opportunities for the youths of the North East region.

“North East would be given first priority in terms of employment generation,” Maken told the gathering.
