SHILLONG: The Border Security Force (BSF) and the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) are likely to work out joint efforts to prevent trans-border crime across the Indo-Bangla border during their three-day Border Coordination Meeting which begins here on Monday.
The meeting assumes importance in view of the increasing trans-border criminal activities reported along the international border.
A senior BSF official on Sunday said that the meeting will dwell upon the need to act jointly to prevent illegal activities along the border.
The BGB delegation led by Brig Gen Abu Sayeed Khan NDC, PSC along with his wife Begum Kazi Samina Hossain and 12 other members would be received at the ICP Dawki early Monday morning from where they will travel to Shillong. The BSF-BGB conference would be held at the BSF Umpling headquarters.
According to the official, the BSF will raise the issue of assault on Indian civilians by Bangladeshi citizens in different places along the border including Dawki. Besides, other issues like cattle smuggling, infiltration by Bangladeshis, trans-border crime, supply of fake Indian currency notes through Bangladesh would also be discussed in the meeting.
The deliberations would also focus on fostering friendly relations between the two forces and between the people living on either side of the international border.
“We will discuss the need for confidence building between the two forces and the people to develop a healthy relationship between the two countries,” the official added.
It was informed that the BGB is likely to raise issues like the assault of unarmed Bangladeshi citizens by Indian villages and illegal transportation of intoxicants such as phensedyl to Bangladesh via India.
