GUWAHATI: Admitting irregularities in the issuing of as many as 1,37,000 ration cards in Assam, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday announced a judicial probe headed by a retired judge of the Guwahati High Court into the matter.
“The government is very serious to ensure that ration cards are not misused and reach genuine hands. The public distribution system will be revamped and we will evolve means to improve it,” Gogoi said.
On fleeing of doctors from civil hospitals in Kokrajhar on getting extortion notices from the anti-talk faction of NDFB, he admitted that the law and order situation there was bad.
“We are taking corrective measures and one of them is to transfer the district superintendent of police,” he said, adding that temporary arrangements are being made to provide relief to the patients.
