Probe into teenager’s death ordered

GUWAHATI: The Assam government has ordered an inquiry into the death of a teenager Ragha Nagbonshi allegedly in a fake encounter by CRPF commandos at Malasi Dolamara in Karbi Anglong district last week.

A one-man inquiry committee headed by MC Jauhari, Commissioner of Division, Hills & Barak Valley, will inquire into the causes and circumstances leading to Ragha’s death, a release said here today.

The Commissioner and Secretary, Home and Political department, of the state government issued the notification for the constitution of the probe panel on December 9, a day after the incident. The committee is instructed to submit its report within seven days from the date of the notification.

Local boy Ragha was alleged killed by the CRPF’s Cobra Commandos near his residence on December 8 in a fake encounter.

The incident had led to mob violence in which Karbi Anglong superintendent of police Anurag Agarwal was also injured when the public had attacked the Dolamara police station.

It is to be noted that several innocent lives have been lost in security operations in Assam in the last three decades, which is a gross violation of human rights by state forces. (UNI)
