JOWAI: The Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) has, after deliberations, unanimously approved three bills — the JHADC (Trading by Non-Tribal) Regulation Bill 2011, Constitution of the JHADC (Amendment) Bill 2011 and the JHADC (Members’ Pension) Third Amendment Bill 2011.

All the three bills was introduced by JHADC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Lamdibok Sumer on the first day of the two-day winter session on Tuesday followed by the general discussion and passing of all three bills on Wednesday.

The Council had, several times in the past, introduced and approved the JHADC (Trading by Non-Tribal) Regulation Bill but everytime it was rejected by the District Council Affairs and the Law Department.

The JHADC (Members’ Pension) Third Amendment Bill was first introduced in 2007 but the bill was sent back to the Executive Committee by the Governor.

The Constitutions of the JHADC (Amendment) Bill 2011 for expansion of the Executive Committee was a fresh bill.

The Executive Committee (EC) in JHADC has eight members besides the Chief Executive Member (CEM) and the Deputy Chief Executive Member (Dy CEM).

“Once the Governor approves the bill, the Executive Committee will be enhanced by another member,” said an MDC supporting the Bill.
