S Pyngrope wins Sohiong Open title

Former Chief Minister DD Lapang hands over a cheque of Rs 25,000 to the winner of men’s singles title S Pyngrope. (ST)

 SHILLONG: S Pyngrope clinched men’s singles title of the Sohiong Open badminton championship by defeating Raju Joshi in straight sets (25-23 and 21-15) in the final played at Sohiong Indoor Stadium, Sohiong, on Wednesday.

Pyngrope ran away with cash prize of Rs 25,000 along with the trophy.

The first set witnessed a close contest between two young players.

In women’s singles, Balarina Syiem won the title defeating Yesther Kharkongor in the final. Balarina won the match 21-11 and 21-9.

In the men’s doubles, Dr Ibo and Bishen defeated the Joshi brothers (P Joshi and R Joshi) 21-7 and 21-17 in the final.

In the women’s double, Pretty and Esther defeated Yesther and Earnacle 21-16) and (21-19) in the final.

Finally, in the mixed doubles, Dr Ibo and Balarina Syiem defeated R Joshi and Pretty 21-17 and 21-17 in the final.

Former Chief Minister DD Lapang, Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh and Founder Strong Cajee gave away prizes.
