SHILLONG: Korean midfielder Ho Jun Shin scored in the closing stages of the match to guide Langsning FC to a 3-2 victory over SSB, Siliguri in the quarterfinal league match of the 22nd All India Meghalaya Invitation Football Tournament played at First Division Ground, Polo here on Thursday.
Shin scored a stunner in the final minutes to save the day for the home team who messed up a two-goal lead to give the visitors an edge in the second half.
Langsning, who have already reached the semifinal, went into the lead in the 5th minute when Yinka Joel Sunday Ayeni’s powerful strike saw the ball go past SSB custodian Anindya Sasmal. The team from Shillong increased the lead in the 25th minute after last match’s hero P.K. Ningleithing netted one for his side.
A fall in intensity from Langsning saw SSB come right back into the match in the second half. The visitors dominated the proceedings and reduced the deficit with a goal in the 53rd minute. SSB were relentless in their approach and the hard work paid off when striker Manoj Kumar Rabha’s header went past the Langsning goalkeeper to level the scores soon after.
At a time, when the match looked to end in a draw, Langsning midfielder Ho Jun Shin had other ideas and he scored a stunner in the dying minutes of the match to give the home team a 3-2 victory. With this win, Langsning has nine points from three wins while SSB failed to win a point throughout the tournament.
On Friday, Nigeria XI would take on Tata Football Academy in the quarterfinal league match. Since both teams are already out of the race to the last four, Nigeria and TFA would playing for pride
