SHILLONG: Nigeria XI defeated Tata Football Academy (TFA) by 2-0 in the quarter-final league match of the 22nd All India Meghalaya Invitation Football Tournament played at First Division Ground, Polo on Friday.

Despite the victory, Nigerian team failed to qualify to the semifinal. They secured third spot in Group A.

The Nigerian XI earned four points from three matches while MLPFT have five points from the same number of matches.

MLPFT and Ar-Hima have made it to the last-four stage from Group A.

TFA will have to return without managing a single point in the quarter-final league.

After playing ordinary football in previous matches, the Nigerian team appeared a different team on Friday. They dominated the match right from the word go.

The Nigerian XI proved to be too tough for the young TFA side.

Nigeria XI continued to penetrate into the TFA defence. In the 40th minute Nigeria XI made 2-0 via Moussa Kamara’s stunner.

TFA got a golden opportunity to put one back but Pranoy Halder failed to convert a penalty into a goal.

On Saturday, local favourites Royal Wahingdoh FC will take on Yeti Himalayan Sherpas in the last quarter-final league.
