The VIP vehicle involved in the incident

Shillong: On Sunday morning at around 9.30 am, a VIP vehicle (ML 05 G 2883) tried to push through the traffic jam near Umling. The VIP’s escorts shouted at everyone to make way for their lord and master, notwithstanding the fact that the roads were completely jammed and movement either backwards or forward was well nigh impossible.

A citizen journalist, caught in the jam on her way from Guwahati, captured the VIP vehicle on her camera and reported the incident to The Shillong Times.

“Without a proper traffic regulation allowing only a certain number of trucks per day on the GS Road it is impossible to remedy the situation,” said the citizen journalist.

Her fellow traveller said, “At least with the military types there is a chance that the roads will be cleared not only for the big bosses but for other cars as well. But our VIPs care for no one but themselves and they dare call themselves our leaders.

Another passenger fumed, “Normally leaders create the path for their followers. But here it’s the opposite.”

Added another passenger, “With dark tinted glasses on all VIP vehicles, even if only the driver is travelling, he misuses the red light and siren and zips past other vehicles as if he too is in a tearing hurry. How can this abuse of power be allowed? ”

Reportedly the conversation on powers and privileges of VIPs carried on until the passengers alighted in Shillong after a harrowing journey that took them five hours which ordinarily should not take more than three hours.
