SHILLONG: Police have recovered the body of an elderly person (probably a non-tribal) from the roadside along Shillong-Guwahati highway at Umran Niangbyrnai, Umsning on December 17.

Police said the body must have been lying in the spot for more than two days before it was recovered.

Police said that there are strong possibilities that the person must have been murdered elsewhere and the body dumped at the spot from where it was recovered.

Police also said that the deceased could have been a truck driver.

The body has been kept at the morgue of the Nongpoh Civil Hospital following post mortem examination.
