SHILLONG: The recent statement of Deputy Chief Minister BM Lanong, in which he had compared U Soso Tham with Sachin Tendulkar has been severely criticized by the KSU who said that the comparison was uncalled for.
Condemning Lanong’s statement, the KSU Mawlai Circle president Donboklang Kharlyngdoh in a statement said, “We didn’t expect Lanong to make such weightless statement.”
“What is Sachin when compared to Soso Tham? We won’t deny the fact that Sachin has contributed much to the country in terms of sports but when it comes to the State, where are his contributions?” Kharlyngdoh questioned, adding that at the end of the day, Sachin earns for himself and his family unlike Soso Tham who dedicated his life for the community. Kharlyngdoh also said that Soso Tham is way beyond comparison. “Even the present Khasi authors cannot match the great works of the legendary poet,” he said, adding that his writings have not only enriched the people but also promoted Khasi literature to a whole different level.
