ITANAGAR: All Arunachal Pradesh Cane Contractors Association (AAPCCA) has expressed its resentment over the rampant sale of raw cane outside the state by some businessmen with vexed interest is ”total violation of a Cabinet decision as well as a department order.”

In a letter written to the Parliamentary Secretary of Forests and Environment yesterday, AAPCCA said around 50 to 60 cane-laden trucks were always stocked near the Military Engineering Service (MES) camp located in Dhemaji district of Assam for its further export to Kolkata. These canes are extracted from the jungles of Upper Siang and West Siang districts and driven past the two check gates at Ruksin and Likabali, the sources added.

The canes were often offloaded near the MES for their onward export to Kolkata, the association said. The canes were then taken to Kolkata by the contractors of Bharat Cane Expo, the association alleged. ”The transit pass (TP) challan issued for the canes is valid for Arunachal Pradesh only, however, how the canes land up in Kolkata remained a big mystery,” the AAPCCA said.
