Road mishap toll rises to 11

 SHILLONG: The death toll in Wednesday accident at Jadukatta bridge in Ranikor has risen to 11.

The ill-fated vehicle was passing over the Jadukatta bridge when it fell into the river’on Wednesday.

Police on Thursday recovered the body of a coal labourer R Tariang. On the other hand, one Watbor Shabong succumbed to his injuries at Ranikor PHC.

It may be mentioned that till Wednesday night police had fished out nine bodies. The truck started its journey from the coal mine area of Borsora and was proceeding to Shillong along with the coal labourers who had made their plans to spend Christmas with their respective families. Meanwhile, West Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police R Muthu said the condition of four labourers is serious.

Stating that Ranikor bridge was in good condition, he said reckless driving might have resulted in the accident.
