The Umrangshu-based senior officials were abducted by suspected Karbi militants on November 25 from their offices situated at 18 Kilo locality near the industrial town of Umrangshu, 120 km from Haflong.

Police said the mutilated bodies were recovered last night from a jungle.

Dima Hasao Additional Superintendent of Police Surjit Singh Panisar said the bodies were brought to Haflong civil hospital today for autopsy. He said the police had been able to get some lead and were hopeful of nabbing the culprits soon. So far four people had been arrested, he added.

Sources said Karbi People’s Liberation Tigers (KPLT) had demanded Rs 2 crore as ransom for the release of the offcials.

While Sandhu hailed from Rajasthan, Sharma was a resident of Sivasagar in Assam. (UNI)
