Manipur facing acute water shortage

Imphal: People of Manipur, specially in the city areas, are facing water crisis as the state Public Health Engineering Department(PHED) has stopped supply of water.

After killings of a Chawkidar of the Irilbung Water Supply and his son by KCP Kesho Meitei cadres on December 16 employees of PHED launched a stir and water supply was stopped. City residents have started buying water from people who are ferrying it in buckets and water tankers. Most people cannot afford it.= Due to increase in demand transportation charges have doubled and people are compelled to take water from nearby ponds and rivers. (UNI)

Myanmar n’tnal arrested for murder

Aizawl: A Myanmarese migrant worker was arrested for axing an Indian villager to death at a border village in eastern Mizoram today. A 52-year-old Myanmarese national hacked to death one Zoramsanga, a 22-year-old native of Farkawn village under Champhai police station, with an axe during a heated argument this morning The youth, a father of two-year-old, died on the way to hospital. The accused was immediately arrested by Assam Rifles posted along the border.

Later in the afternoon, Champhai police took him to their custody, about 80 kilometres from the village.

The accused was one of the Myanmarese migrant labourers working in timber factories in the border villages. (UNI)
