SHILLONG: The FKJGP, East Khasi Hills Unit has demanded the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) to revoke the permission given to one Raj Kumar Sharma to open his pharmacy at North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) citing the latter was running the pharmacy without valid trading license.

The union has alleged that the KHADC has permitted Kumar to open a pharmacy at NEIGRIHMS without a valid trading license. “This person, Raj Kumar Sharma is operating with the trading license obtained for his pharmacy in Polo market”, FKJGP East Khasi Hills Unit general secretary, Eldie N Lyngdoh stated. However, after intervention by the union, it was found that Kumar’s trading license has already lapsed since the year 2007 and was never renewed ever since. The union has sent a letter to the Executive Member of KHADC, In charge of Trade Antonio War in this regard.

“The District Council under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution of India is supposed to protect the social and economic identity of the minority tribal population”, Lyngdoh said.“This careless behaviour has made us lose faith in your institution which is supposed to uphold the interest of the tribal community like ours”, FKJGP GS said in a letter sent to the EM of KHADC.

The union has condemned this behaviour on the part of the KHADC and demanded that the permission given to Raj Kumar Sharma to open his pharmacy at NEIGRIHMS be revoked immediately and punish him for not following the due procedures as laid by the KHADC in obtaining a trading license.
